Everyone seems to have a lamp stashed away that, for some reason, never got thrown away. It works, but it’s ugly. It was great in your college dorm and even in your first apartment—you might even have some sentimental feelings for it—but…it’s ugly. Reminiscent of your parents’ basement paneling, it is not something you would put in your living room today. It is dated, brown, and—did we mention?—ugly.
Even so, that 1970s relic shows some promise. The small tabletop is kind of appealing and just right to hold a cup of coffee.
Rather than continue to feel guilty for not using it or resenting the space it takes up, turn it into a simple, inexpensive, do-it-yourself project. Transform the old piece into something more in step with your life today. Shown three ways, the finished product is limited only by your imagination. Decide where you will use this lamp and coordinate it with the décor of that space. With a few coats of spray paint and a new shade, this lamp can now be seen in a whole new light.
