One Room Challenge Week 4 – Home Office Makeover: Where Did The Time Go?

One Room Challenge Week 4 – Home Office Makeover: Where Has The Time Gone?

It’s week 4 of the One Room Challenge and we are getting down to the wire…only 2 weeks left (Yikes!)  I still have a lot of things to do to get my home office makeover done…where does the time go?

In case you missed my I’ve been up to so far, you can find the “Before” pictures in the Week 1 post, the Mood Board in the Week 2 post, and My Garden Pictures Painting Progress in the Week 3 post.

Once again, I didn’t get as much done this week as I was hoping to.  Between social activities on the weekend, and some unexpected website trouble, I spent a lot of time doing things that didn’t get me any closer to finishing my room.  But here’s the status update…

Added Architectural Interest

Panel Mouldings

But I did manage to get one DIY project out of the way, which was to add some architectural interest with panel mouldings and wallpaper on the walls.  I love the way this turned out!  The subtle rose wallpaper doesn’t stand out too much, but is enough to break up the boring blank walls.

Changed My Mind

I also made a fairly significant design change…Remember how I said I was going to build a desk?  I lied!  I was browsing around on One Kings Lane and found one that I fell in love with…and then I found it again on overstock.com* for a lot less money…so I figured that was a sign!  It’s completely opposite to the style of desk that I was planning on putting in the room (black lacquer instead of weathered wood!!), but I think the gold legs will totally go!

On top of that, I ordered it on the weekend and they say it will be delivered by the end of the week…now all I need is for the the base cabinet, cowhide rug and antique chair to get the message that they need to be delivered sooner rather than later…

Channeled My Inner Electrician

My garden-inspired ceiling light fixture also arrived.

There are some benefits to having an ex-husband who was an electrician…I learned enough about electrical wiring to do my own light fixture installs, which means no waiting to have it hooked up 🙂

My desk lamp also arrived…It is now hanging out in the living room waiting for a chance to more to its forever home.

And that really is all I can say for this week…other than hopefully my website is running faster now that I’ve switched to a new host 🙂  Sorry if any of you ran into any issues with slow loading pages last week!

Hopefully next week I will have the cabinets built in…a rather large chunk of work, but I have cleared my calendar this weekend…

  1. Wow, I LOVE your desk! I can’t imagine building one prettier than that! I’m working on a kid’s homework area for my ORC and I too recently switched from building a custom one to finding a pre-made one…whew, it took off the pressure! Looking forward to seeing your final look!

    1. Thanks, Kristin! You’re right…not having to build the desk is definitely a time saver…and I think I’m going to need all the time I can get to finish this project 🙂

  2. Hi! Just wanted to say that I love your desk choice. So gorgeous! Kudos on hanging the chandy- that is my next big goal- learning basic electrical skills.

    1. Thanks, Joy! Those electrical skills really come in handy sometimes, and it isn’t as hard as it looks. Definitely worth the time to learn as far as I am concerned 🙂
