It’s hard to believe it’s the beginning of March already. Here in South Carolina, the daffodils and star magnolias are already blooming. Spring is definitely on its way!

This time of year always makes me want to celebrate that nicer weather (and gardening season) will be here soon.

And I usually do that by creating a spring inspired tablescape.

Blue and white hydrangeas are the table inspiration

To me, one of the easiest ways to find table setting inspiration is to get a bouquet (or two) of flowers and use them as the basis for my color scheme.

While I was at the grocery store, I just happened to see these beautiful blue and white hydrangeas and thought they would be perfect!

Blue is my favorite color and I love hydrangeas, so there certainly wasn’t a long drawn-out decision making process.

And so my hydrangea-inspired blue and white table setting was born!

Since the flowers were the inspiration for the table, I did the centerpiece first.

I combined the hydrangeas with some white roses to fill out the bouquet.

And used a simple white pitcher as the vase.

Since pitchers have a fairly wide opening, I put one of these floral spikes in the bottom.

Then you can stick the stems onto the spikes and they stay in place.

Since one of the stems was bent, I also used a twist tie around the stems to keep the hydrangeas bunched together.

Then I added in the roses.

I think this is one of my favorite flower arrangements ever! And it was so easy to do.

The Place Setting

Since I was doing a blue and white table setting, a white tablecloth seemed like the way to go.

This one made in India has very pretty white embroidery that adds some extra detail.

Blue and white place setting layers

As usual, I like to use different patterns for the different layers in the table setting.

I layered blue woven placemats, a white ruffled-edge charger, blue and white toile dinner plates and a white appetizer plate.

All of the plates have some detail around the edges which brings them all together, even though the patterns are different.

Blue napkins were the final touch.

Alternating the blue and white colors in each layer really makes the color scheme stand out.

I originally tried this with a white floral napkin ring but it seemed a little too fussy.

So in the end I added a mini-hydrangea pot to each plate.

These are actually made up of a mercury glass tea light holder with a faux hydrangea napkin ring pushed into it.

I used napkin rings because I already had it on hand. But a faux hydrangea with the stem cut off would work just as well.

I really like the way it echoes the hydrangea arrangement in the middle of the table.

To keep with the clean and simple theme, I added my antique silverware and I think it goes perfectly!

The table also looks good with the napkin on the side if you prefer not to have it on the plate.

The Finishing Touches

Since I wanted the flowers to be the main centerpiece focus, I didn’t want to add too many other decorations to the table.

I went with simple stemmed water glasses that have a small silver band around the top.

Then added a couple of candle holders (made from a stemless wine glass for the outside, some sand in the bottom, a few faux pearls and a tealight candle holder).

Finally I borrowed a few blue and white balls (that are normally in a bowl in my bedroom) and placed them around the table.

Fortunately, they actually have a flat side, so they don’t roll around when you put them down the right way.

For the buffet, I left my usual candelabras, and added some white daisies to one of my many blue and white vases.

These are usually in my office, but work really well for this setting!

I love the way this table turned out!

Of course, since blue and white is one of favorite color combinations, I probably shouldn’t be too surprised about that.

Now I just have to invite some people over for dinner 🙂

Hopefully you have found some inspiration for your own spring tablescape (especially if you are in an area that still feels like winter).

        1. Hi Laurie…Believe it or not, I hang my camera from the chandelier and then use the remote control to take the picture. But I have to admit, it takes a few tries to get it at the right angle 🙂

Love the blue and white. Where did you get the blue placemat and the charger next to it! And … the napkins rings?

    1. Thanks, Dot! The placemat and napkin rings came from Pier 1. And the charger is from wayfair.com. The images under Shop The Table at the bottom of the page link to the exact products if you don’t want to search for them 🙂

  6. Love this tablescape! Where did you get the beautiful tablecloth?

    1. Thanks, Janice! Unfortunately, I received the tablecloth as a gift so I’m not sure where it came from. It is cotton and Made in India so you might be able to find something similar at a linen shop that does imports.
