It’s been a while since I have had a party at my house (since the Super Bowl to be exact)…and I always start to get antsy to do some entertaining when I haven’t had a party in a while.  So when I realized that my friend’s wedding anniversary was coming up in August, I decided it was the perfect excuse!

Since it is an anniversary party, I’m planning for a more formal event than I normally have…which means using real tablecloths, chair covers, plates, cutlery, napkins, and napkin rings.

The main “issue” is my friend is a popular person…there are over 40 people coming to this party. Okay, so the problem isn’t that she’s popular. The issue really is that I don’t have formal sit-down dinners very often…so while I can come up with most of the tableware that I need (I always mix and match), I don’t own that many napkin rings!

While I was looking around for party supplies on amazon.com, I happened to see these sparkle napkin rings* which aren’t very expensive and add some shine to the table.

Then I noticed that they aren’t very wide (a little more than 1″ across) and that they are made of rhinestone ribbon*.

I just happen to already own rhinestone ribbon (it’s great for a lot of different party decorations!)…so I decided to make my own.

And the bonus is I can make them the width that I want and in the colors that I want.

Read on to find out how to make DIY sparkle napkin rings.

Putting the napkin rings together is actually really easy…just cut, peel and stick…no gluing required 🙂

1. Cut the rhinestone ribbon to the width that you want your napkin ring to be.  I made mine 2″ wide.

2. Cut a ¼” wide strip of velcro (both sides).

Separate the two sides of the velcro

You should end up with one strip of ribbon and two pieces of velcro (one fuzzy side and one gripping side).

3. Remove the back off one piece of velcro and stick it along one edge of the ribbon.

Attach the other side of the velcro to the other end and opposite side of the sparkle ribbon

4. Turn the ribbon over and stick the other piece of velcro along the opposite edge of the ribbon.

One piece of velcro will be on the front side of the ribbon and the other will be on the backside of the ribbon.

Using the Napkin Rings

Because these napkin rings come apart at one end, they are very flexible in what they can be used for.

You can create a tailored bow-tie effect with the napkin (like the picture above).

If you have some of the ribbon left over, you can use it for additional decorations…like adding some sparkle to your table (as I did for my Winter Wonderland party).

Or adding some sparkle to the side of a vase.

I am already thinking of ways to use them for many parties to come…I love an inexpensive project that has so much re-use potential!

Stay tuned to future blog posts to see these napkin rings in action, and the rest of the anniversary party decor.

Where can we buy this rhinestone ribbon?

Hi Cornea…I bought mine from amazon.com (search for “rhinestone diamond ribbon”). If you don’t have access to Amazon, they usually carry it at party supply stores.
