If you have downloaded and opened a Cricut project that has score lines (or fold lines), many times you will need to convert the type assigned to those lines from “Cut” to “Score”. This tells Cricut to use the scoring stylus instead of the blade when it’s making your design.

Identify the Score Layers

Selecting a score layer in Cricut Design Space

First, find the layer that you need to convert to a Score line by looking for it in the Layers panel on the right side of your screen. The instructions for your cut file should tell you how to find them.

Select the layer by clicking on it.

Then go over to the top left hand side of the screen, and select Score from the drop down box under Link Type.

Repeat this for every layer that needs to be converted to a Score line.

Speed option: Select all of the layers to be converted by holding down the shift key while you click on them. Then change the Line Type to Score and it will update all of them at once.

Attach The Score Layers To A Cut Layer

The last step is to tell Cricut which layer those scores should apply to (in other words, which piece of paper should it make the scores on).

We will need to select the layer that the score lines should be applied to plus all of the score layers that need to be applied.

Attaching Score layers to a Cut layer in Cricut design space

To do that, hold down the shift key while you select the score layers and the cut layer from the Layers menu on the right side.

Then go to the bottom of the menu and click the Attach button.

Sometimes there’s a little bit of a delay before it makes the change. You’ll know it’s finished when the Attach symbol turns to Detach.

Repeat the selecting and attaching process for any other cut layers that need to have score lines assigned to them.

What If I Attached The Score Layer To The Wrong Cut Layer?

If you accidentally Attach a score layer to the wrong cut layer, don’t panic…it’s easy to fix.

Just select the cut layer that is set up incorrectly in the Layers menu on the right side of the screen.

Then click the Detach button on the bottom of the Layers menu (you’ll see it has now taken the place of the Attach button).

Then re-attach the Score layers where they should be.
