Crows Nest DIY Halloween Wreath

Add some spooky Halloween decor to your front door with this easy crows nest DIY Halloween wreath.

Every year I go all out with a Halloween yard haunt that all of the kids in the neighborhood look forward to. I usually create a Halloween graveyard in my front yard with some great outdoor Halloween lighting and some spooky front door decor like this crow’s nest wreath.

Easy DIY Halloween Wreath

Okay, I know it’s only September, and not even officially fall yet. But I am in full-on get-ready-for-Halloween mode.

As some of you know, every year I have a big Halloween party (it’s my favorite holiday!) that I always start planning for months in advance.

This year, it’s even worse. I have a wedding to go to the weekend before Halloween (the usual date for the party)…so I had to move it up a week. That means 5 weeks and counting to get everything ready!

So with that said, the first decoration to go up is the crow’s nest DIY Halloween wreath on my front door. I’m sure all of my neighbors think I’m crazy to be starting this already, but hey…you have to start somewhere.

Fortunately, this is a really easy DIY Halloween project that doesn’t take much time…I just need to come up with a few more like this and I’ll be all set 🙂

Black spray paint – I used Chalkboard spray paint because I had it on hand and I like it’s matte finish. But I think any black spray paint would work.

How To Make The Crow’s Nest DIY Halloween Wreath

Grapevine wreath spray painted black

1. Spray paint the twig wreath black. Don’t worry if it isn’t perfect. Having some brown showing through gives it an interesting texture.

2. Position the switch of the twinkle light at the bottom of the wreath. We’ll hide it behind the wreath and use the moss to make sure it isn’t visible.

3. Wrap the twinkle light wire around the wreath leaving a space at the bottom of the wreath where the moss will be.

4. Add the Spanish moss at the bottom of the wreath. Pull it down on the front of the wreath so that it is a little ragged looking. Use little dabs of hot glue to hold it in place if it won’t stay where you want it (although most of the time, the Spanish moss sticks pretty well all by itself).

5. Add the crow to the nest using hot glue to hold it in place.

DIY Crow's Nest Halloween wreath with lights

Turn on the lights in the evening to make the crow stand out more. Since I usually forget to turn the lights off again, I only do this on the night of the party and Halloween night.
