Easy DIY Frosted Glass Candle Holders

This week’s DIY project is a really easy way to make a candle holder.  When I was putting together the Silver and White table last week, I wanted some candle holders that went with the color scheme but were a little taller than a normal tealight holder.

A small mason jar was exactly the height I was looking for…and since I had a bunch of them taking up space in the kitchen, I figured it would also be a great way to clear a little space in my container drawer 🙂  However, if you have some other kind of glass container that you would rather use, this would work for that as well.

Frost The Glass

Okay, this isn’t real “frosted” glass, but it looks like it…and it’s really easy to do.

1. Turn the jar upside down on a surface that you don’t mind getting some paint on.

2. Spray the sides of the jar with the glitter spray paint.  The more of it you spray on, the thicker the “frosting” will be…so you can control how opaque the finish is.

3. Wait for the paint to dry before going on to the next step.

Add The Ribbons

1. Cut both of the ribbons so that they will reach all the way around the jar plus a little extra.

2. Cut the width of the rhinestone ribbon so that it is narrower than the white and silver ribbon (I made mine 5 rhinestones wide).

4. Attach the two halves of the velcro dots to both ends of the sparkle ribbon.  Make sure they are attached on opposite sides of the ribbon (so that the they will meet when you wrap the ribbon around the jar).

5. Staple the velcro in place.  This helps to make sure it stays in place when you light the candles (otherwise the heat can make the sticky part to come off).

6. Position the sparkle ribbon over the wider ribbon and wrap the two of them around the jar.

7. Use the velcro to attach the ends of the sparkle ribbon together.  It should be tight enough to hold both ribbons in place.

These candles looked great on my table.

But I also used them on the mantle and they worked there, too!  You can also see one of my favorite “non-traditional” Christmas decorations…white feather boas!  (You can see some of my other easy, inexpensive and non-traditional Christmas decorations HERE).

They even go with my new favorite champagne glasses…I love easy projects that work out 🙂

Love the jar/candle idea. One can change the candle covering for every season or occasion.

That’s exactly what I do, Marcy! It’s an easy and really inexpensive way to update your decor.

Do you use a sealant on the glitter spray?

    1. Wanda Simone says:

Hi Erika…I didn’t, but you probably could if you want to make sure it doesn’t rub off. (Although I have had them for a few years now and haven’t had much trouble with that).
