Purple, Gold and Green DIY Mardi Gras Feather Centerpiece

If you want some statement decorations for your Mardi Gras party, this DIY Mardi Gras feather centerpiece is just the thing. Made from purple, gold and green ostrich feathers as well as Mardi Gras beads, it fits right in with the theme and color scheme.

Fun and feathers are definitely associated with Mardi Gras so I thought I would make some feather centerpieces that would work well for a party.

Since purple, gold and green are the Mardi Gras colors, I chose feathers and beads in those colors to put in the vase.

Hanging some more of the Mardi Gras beads from the feathers helps to add to that New Orleans vibe.

Looking at the finished centerpiece, you would never know that it only takes about 5 minutes to put together.

So if some DIY Mardi Gras feather centerpieces are in your future, keep reading to find out how to make them.

DIY Mardi Gras feather centerpiece supplies

These are the basic supplies that you will need to make your DIY feather centerpieces…a tall vase, some ostrich feathers and a bouquet holder.

How To Make DIY Mardi Gras Feather Centerpieces

To start, insert the end of the bouquet holder* into the top of the vase*.

Add The Purple Feathers

Four purple ostrich feathers added to the centerpiece

Begin with the bottom row of the bouquet holder and the purple feathers.

Using one feather for every other section of the bottom row, stick the ends of the feathers into the floral foam in the bouquet holder. You should end up with 4 feathers going all the way around the bouquet holder.

Do the same on row 2, but put the feathers in the alternate spaces (so that they are not directly on top of the feathers in the first row).

There should be a total of 8 purple feathers in the bouquet holder.

Add The Gold Feathers

Move up to the next row in the bouquet holder.

This time you will put one of the gold feathers in every section.

Insert one green feather in every section of the bouquet on angle pointing upwards.

The Finishing Feathers

Finally, add 2 or 3 more feathers to the very top of the bouquet holder pointing up and filling in the gaps from the top row.

I used gold and purple feathers for this, but you could also add more green if you want to.

Then take a look around your centerpiece to see if there are any gaps.

To fill in the spaces, you can either re-position existing feathers, or add a new feather in the gap.

Fill The Vase

Adding Mardi Gras beads to the vase

Add Mardi Gras beads to the vase, which will end up looking like stripes.

I used purple, gold and green beads to match the colors of the feathers.

Make sure to get ones that are small enough to fit through the center of the vase.

Hang Some Mardi Gras Beads

Hang some more purple, gold and green Mardi Gras beads from the feathers.

Position them close to the vase so that they don’t fall off the feathers if you need to move the vase around.

Put the beads on feathers of different heights so they don’t all hang at the same height.

Combine it with some Mardi Gras garland, masks and mini hats to complete the look. (I got all the rest of these Mardi Gras decorations from the Dollar Tree, so they were very inexpensive!).
