Teal and Copper Fall Room Decor Ideas

If you’re looking for some autumn decorating inspiration, these easy fall room decor ideas use non traditional colors of teal and copper to make your home feel cozy.

It’s official! Fall is here!!

And that means this is the week for the Fall Decor and Entertaining Blogger Home Tour hosted by Angelina at Peonies and Orange Blossoms.

If you are visiting from Living Large In A Small House (or any of the other bloggers on the tour), welcome! Thanks for stopping by!

In the interest of being honest, I think I should tell you….this is my very first fall home tour.

In fact, since I’m spilling the beans, this is the first time I have ever decorated for fall. EVER!!

I usually go straight from summer to Halloween.

And there’s a reason for that. Growing up in Canada, fall always reminded me that it was going to be cold soon, and I hate the cold! So I stayed in denial about the pending bad weather for as long as I could. And skipped fall decorating altogether.

Having said that, I live in South Carolina now. And fall is actually one of the nicest seasons. It has finally cooled off enough to be comfortable outside…and there isn’t much threat of cold weather.

So I decided this is the year to embrace fall!

The Color Scheme

If you’ve read any of my previous fall posts, you know that orange isn’t my favorite color for decorating.

So I started this process by looking for some non-traditional fall decorating inspiration.

If you're looking for some autumn decorating inspiration, these easy fall room decor ideas use non traditional colors and will make your home feel cozy.

I had already decided that DIY copper leaf pumpkins would be a great way to keep the color palette warm without actually using orange.

But black, white and copper won’t cut it in my house (if you don’t know me…I am definitely a color person!)

So I headed out to the garden to get some fall decorating ideas…one of my favorite ways to get inspiration any time of the year!.

The first thing I saw were these beautiful hibiscus (Rose of Sharon) flowers right outside my front door. Perfect for the first color in my non-traditional fall decorating scheme.

Filling the planters in front of my house with Mums, grasses and silver dusty miller made sure the front looks welcoming.

I always like to mix warm colors with cool ones, so now I needed to find a cool tone.

Picking the color family was pretty easy…most of my house is painted blue, and I’m doing an “Under the Sea” theme for Halloween…so some shade of blue was an obvious choice.

I know what you’re thinking…who picks their fall home decorating colors based on their Halloween party theme?? That would be me 🙂

Then I happened to find blue-ish green and white Heirloom Pumpkins at my local Publix (grocery store), and I knew it was meant to be. I have never seen anything other than orange pumpkins in my neck of the woods…so I cleaned out their supply…all 5 of them!

And that’s how I chose teal as my second color.

C’mon In

Okay, now that the color decisions are out of the way, let’s start the tour!

If you're looking for some autumn decorating inspiration, these easy fall room decor ideas use non traditional colors and will make your home feel cozy.

If you’re new around here, you may not know that I live in a builder grade home. So I don’t have a pretty farmhouse facade or a cozy country front porch. In fact, there’s basically just a front walk. Which I have spruced up by planting a garden around it.

And to be honest, I couldn’t come up with a way to decorate this that looked any better than the garden does by itself. (Maybe next year!)

So I kept things simple with a coppery-gold colored leaf wreath that I found at Home Goods…and it’s perfect for my front door.

Fall Entry Way Decor

My original plan was to use those white and blue pumpkins to create a pumpkin patch on the bench in the front hall. But I quickly learned that you need more than 5 of them to create an effective pile.

Plus putting pumpkins on the bench meant you couldn’t sit on it…which kind of defeats the purpose of having the bench there.

So I swapped the pumpkins out for a fall-themed cushion*.

And brought over my blue and white garden seat to act as a pumpkin stand.

I kept the console decorations simple by adding some leaf placemats* and one turquoise pumpkin. It fits right in with the ocean colors that are already there.

The piano is on the back wall of the living room to your left when you walk in.

Since it regularly hosts a plethora of candles, all I did to dress it up was add a vine of metallic leaves (another Home Goods find!)

Fall Living Room Decor

From there you can see all of the living room.

This is the room where I spend most of my “relax-at-home” time, so I want it to feel cozy and comfortable for fall.

It also has to be animal proof. Nothing that looks like a ball (which includes pumpkins) close enough to the ground that a cocker spaniel (my dog Winston) can reach it.

If Winston were a little younger, these decorative spheres (aka balls) in the middle of the coffee table would definitely have been in the “play zone”.

But he’s getting up there in age, and can’t jump up there to get them any more.

Then there is Chanel, who thinks pretty much everything is a cat toy.

Which is why my first attempt at adding fall decor to this side table totally failed (on both accounts!).

Chanel decided that these velvet pumpkins were in her way and needed to be rolled off the tray onto the floor…where Winston was waiting patiently to play with his new “ball”… (Who says cats and dogs don’t get along?)

Attempt #2 was more successful. (Although I’m a little surprised that the faux hydrangea has stayed in that spot for this long.)

This gold and marble tray is one of my favorites.

My new wine glasses have a little teal crystal on them which brings in my fall room decor color scheme.

The faux hydrangea (actually a napkin ring) helps to soften all the hard surfaces.

To me, the word “gather” on these tea towels perfectly sums up the feeling of fall. Autumn is a great time to get together with family and friends.

Fall Fireplace And Mantel Decor

If you're looking for some autumn decorating inspiration, these easy fall room decor ideas use non traditional colors and will make your home feel cozy.

I liked it so much that I made a fall sign to go over the fireplace.

Then added my DIY frosted glass mason jar candle holders, some turquoise glasses (used as candle holders) and a faux vine to the top of the mantel.

Since I have a TV over the fireplace, I can’t put anything too tall in front of it. But the birdcage on the end helps to balance out the floor lamp on the other side.

After deciding against the blue and white pumpkin patch on my front hall bench, I put them to use in front of the fireplace…which works much better.

Fall Dining Room Decor

The dining area in my house is really just an extension of the living room (I don’t have a true dining room).

If you're looking for some autumn decorating inspiration, these easy fall room decor ideas use non traditional colors and will make your home feel cozy.

Of course, I had to do a fall tablescape for my dining table.

I went all out with the copper accents, including candles, and wine glasses* and, of course, pumpkins.  (Yes, that’s me you can see in the reflection on the glass…one problem with having highly reflective surfaces!!)

The faux vines in the middle of the table add some texture to the table that helps to balance out all of the shiny things.

You can see all the details of this gold and copper fall tablescape (and how I put it together) HERE.

Fall Kitchen Decor

My kitchen doesn’t have much extra counter space so I don’t like to clutter it up with non-functional stuff like decorations.

Which is why the fall decor in this room is relegated to the raised countertop between the kitchen and the dining area.

I used the same wine glasses* as you saw in the living room, which inspired the turquoise and silver color scheme for the table setting.

Combining turquoise napkins with white and black ones* makes the place setting look more interesting.

I like this look so much I think it will be the basis for my upcoming “Under The Sea” Halloween party table setting.

Fall Bedroom Decor

The last stop on my tour is the master bedroom.

I would like to claim that the faux fur cushions on my bed were brought in just to make the room feel cozy for fall.  But I can’t…they’re there all year round.

I did add some fall decor touches to the chest under the window. The tall lantern is one of my favorite new additions.

A cup of tea, a candle, and a book are my idea of bedroom coziness! Now, if I can just find the time to actually sit down and read…

These faux flowers from Michael’s are the perfect color to match my fall room decorating scheme and my bedroom! I think they’ll be staying even after fall is over.

On the other side of the room is my antique settee and some end tables. Since I never actually sit here, putting fall pumpkins on the side tables prevents me from stacking stuff on them.

This is the one room in the house where my animals are not allowed…so the velvet pumpkin tray is safe in here.

I love using apples as fall decor also. It reminds me of all the times we used to go apple picking when I was growing up. Always a great fall activity!

  1. Seems like I am late viewing this but I love those mirrored cabinets on the wall trimmed in gold. Beautiful cat. Mine would never sit still to be in a photo.

    1. Wanda Simone says:

Thanks, Myrna! Yes, that cat loves the limelight. My other one runs to the other end of the house as fast as she can when she sees me take out a camera…so I have no pictures of her…

  2. Love your rose gold and copper. I too last year change my Christmas tree to pink, mercury glass birds, frosted white and gold ornaments. Rose gold is definitely part of my decor and I love your colored pumpkins. Will be trying the gold/copper leafing. My question: where can I buy the cloth velvet pumpkins? They are beautiful!

    Thanks for sharing your creativity.
    Myra

    1. Thanks, Myra! Your Christmas tree sounds beautiful! The leafing is really easy, and I really like the way it upgrades inexpensive decorations 🙂 I bought my velvet pumpkins at Michael’s, Joann’s and TJ Maxx.

  4. What color is the bedroom. I love it.

    1. Hi Susan…My bedroom paint color is called Serious Gray from Sherwin Williams. It’s a warm gray with maroon-ish undertones.

  5. Wanda-
Your home is lovely! I to am a fan of copper/rose gold. I pull that out when I transition into Thanksgiving. Last year I loved it so much we had a Rose Gold Christmas. It’s so rich and warm. You would never know this is your first time decorating for fall.

    1. Thanks, Lynn! I am definitely a “copper for fall” convert 🙂 It has such a wonderful warm tone. I will have to check out your Rose Gold Christmas (assuming there are some pictures on your blog)…that sounds really pretty 🙂 Thanks for visiting!

  6. Wanda, I love your Decor! We both like bright colors! That was a great tour! So many pretty pumpkins ! I especially like the pic with your cat in it! The Copper is fabulous!
