Rose of Sharon
Zone: 5 to 9
Sun to Part Sun
Bloom Time: Summer to Fall
Height: 6′ to 10′
Rose of Sharon is a hardy Hibiscus…perfect for non-tropical gardens that want to have a tropical-looking flower! And it comes in blue!
It’s actually a blue flowering shrub rather than a perennial, but it works so well in my garden that I had to include it.
Note: In northern gardens, this plant is often late to start growing in the spring, so don’t chop it down thinking that it’s dead…most likely, it just hasn’t started putting out leaves yet.
Throw in that they are easy to maintain and bloom later in the summer (when a lot of other plants are not at their best), and it’s easy to see why you would want one in your garden.
