One Room Challenge Week 3 – Home Office Makeover: Distracted By Spring
I can’t believe we are at week 3 of the One Room Challenge already! That means it’s half over! And I still have a ton of work to do on my Home Office Makeover!
I have to say that I didn’t get nearly as much done this week as I was hoping to…we had really nice weather this past weekend and I couldn’t talk myself out of doing some gardening. I rationalized it by saying that these Azaleas were providing some color inspiration for my room.
How could I stay inside and work on my room when I had Clematis blooming in the garden?
And my favorite roses?
Ok…back to the challenge…in case you missed where I started from, you can find the background of my home office makeover for Week 1 here, and Week 2 here.
Here’s a (slightly revised) reminder of the mood board.

Having said all that, I am feeling a bit better about my progress this week. Farrow and Ball delivered my new can of paint really quickly (less than 2 days!), so I was able to get the walls painted…which definitely makes the room feel like it’s heading in the right direction.
And I have started on the ceiling…it’s going to be a long process! And that’s about all I have to say about that 🙂
Filing Cabinets (And More Painting)
With the painting done, I was able to move the filing and computer cabinets that are staying into their final resting place. I painted the fronts white (Benjamin Moor Ivory White) with black pin stripes (Benjamin Moore Onyx) and added a little bit of bright pink for a bit of extra pizzazz (just like those Azaleas!). Now I’m waiting for the corner cabinet to arrive…and keeping my fingers crossed that it fits!
I also found these great knobs* from Pier 1 that I’ll be ordering for the doors and drawers (all that garden inspiration worked out after all!)
I’m going to be making a counter top to go across the tops of all of the filing cabinets and have been trying to decide which pattern to use…please feel free to comment on which one you like best!
Large scale leopard print?
Or Paris linen look?
Mobile Computer Table
Okay…this wasn’t in my original design or my mood board…but…I wanted a mobile computer workstation that I could use for my desktop computer. Since it gets used for a lot of purposes (editing photos, sending images to my die cutting machine, watching videos, etc.), I would like to be able to move it to the most convenient location in the room for whatever task I was using it for. I also wanted it to be comfortable to use, which meant it needed a keyboard tray and a higher surface for the monitor. And I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it.
I found the perfect solution in a mobile computer stand* from amazon.com. It doesn’t take up a lot of room, has wheels, is the right height to be comfortable and doesn’t cost a lot. My only problem with it was that it didn’t look very exciting. Since it fit all the other items on my list, I figured a little DIY upgrade would be all it required. Faux marble tops and legs painted gold did the trick! Click here if you want to see all the details on how I made over the table.
Also, check out my new desk chair* (from overstock.com)!
Stay tuned next week to see how the top of those cabinets turns out!

Your filing cabinet looks so neat! I prefer the leopard print personally.
Thanks, Tiffany! I think the leopard print is winning the selection race at the moment 🙂
Despite all of the glorious garden images your room appears to be coming along splendidly. Thank you for joining Thoughts of Home on Thursday. This post truly delighted me.
Thanks, Laura! I did manage to get myself out of the garden for a little while to do some work on the room 🙂 Thanks for hosting the Thoughts of Home on Thursday link party.
That mobile desk is so pretty, classy and chic. Great look!
Thanks, Nicole! It’s the first time I have tried doing the faux marble table tops, and I think it turned out pretty well 🙂
I love the inspiring flowers in your post, it makes such a different in decor to have them. Love the mobile computer made from faux marble, I have never seen one. Great job my dear!
Thanks! I always feel inspired after being out in the garden, and I love incorporating some of that inspiration in my decor. I thought the computer table turned out pretty well, too…it was the first time I have tried doing that faux marble treatment.
Wow! Such good inspiration – I hope you get all this done! Glad you were able to receive the rest of the paint quickly to finish painting. I love the color of the filing cabinets, too. I am thinking the leopard print will looks nice – it stands out with the pink and white (pink, black, and white goes nicely).
Thanks, Zan! I was very happy to get the painting done. That always makes it seem like the room is on its way to being done, even though I still have a ton of other stuff to do…I’ll have to get to work this week 🙂
I got distracted by gardening too this past weekend, but did get the painting done as well. Love the pink on the walls – very soft and pretty.
Thanks, Jenn! I’m hoping for rain this weekend so I won’t be tempted to go out there again 🙂
While you may have been distracted by the beautiful spring blooms, you still made progress. At least your done painting. I still have some pairing to do. Congrats on the progress
Getting the painting done does make me feel like I have made progress! Hopefully I’ll get my act in gear to get going on the rest of the room this weekend 🙂 Good luck with getting your painting done.
So many great things! I love the mobile work station and chair. So pretty! Love the filing cabinets also!
Thanks, Tilisa! Just read your week 3 post and I love what you are doing in your room, too!
I love the Paris linen look!
