Here’s your shopping list:

  • Jolly Rancher Green Apple Gelatin – one small (2.79 ounces) box.
  • Apple juice – ¼ cup is needed. You can also use apple cider.
  • Apple Pucker – You will need ¼ cup. Apple Schnapps can be used as a substitute.
  • Vodka – ½ cup. I like to use a decent quality vodka like Absolut, Smirnoff, or Ketel One because they make the shots a little smoother. But any type of vodka will work.

Substitutions

  • For stronger appletini shots, replace the apple juice with an additional ¼ cup vodka.
  • If you don’t have apple juice and don’t want the jelly shots to be too strong, use ¼ cup cold water.
  • If you have it on hand, you can replace the apple pucker and regular vodka with 3/4 cup of apple-flavored vodka.

How to Make Green Apple Vodka jelly Shots

These are the easy steps (and some of our tips) on how to make the tastiest jelly shots out there!

Prep Work

Top view of empty cups for jello shots

First, spread out about 16 2-ounce shot cups on a cookie sheet.

I find these 2-ounce plastic shot cups with lids* are perfect for serving at parties. The 1-ounce size cups are just too small for the Jello shots.

The cookie sheet is not necessary, but it catches spills and makes it much easier to transport the shots to the refrigerator.

Next, put on some water to boil.

Combine Ingredients

Meanwhile, pour the gelatin crystals into a medium-sized mixing bowl. Using a bowl with a spout* will make your life easier when it comes to pouring the liquid into the shot cups.

Once the water is boiling, then pour it into the bowl with the sugar crystals. Stir until they have dissolved.

Next, stir in ¼ cup apple juice, ¼ cup apple pucker or schnapps, and ½ cup vodka.

The proportion of apple juice, apple pucker, and vodka can be changed to taste. Just make sure that the total amount of this mixture comes to one cup or the Jello shots will not set.

I like to mix all the cold liquids in a measuring cup before pouring it into the jello mixture. That way I can make sure I’m not going over the 1 cup total amount.

Pour and Chill

Finally, pour the appletini jelly shots mixture into the prepared plastic cups.

To prevent condensation, wait until the liquid has fully cooled before placing the lids on the cups.

Next, transfer the cookie sheet with the shots to the refrigerator and chill for at least four hours (and up to three days) prior to serving.

I like to serve these gelatin shots with these miniature spoons* because it makes them much easier to eat.

FAQs

Are jelly shots as strong as regular shots?

Jelly shots are typically less strong than regular shots, but they can be just as dangerous. They taste so good that it’s easy to over-indulge.

Can you put too much vodka in jelly shots?

You certainly can! If you add too much vodka to the jelly shots, then they will not set properly and may taste bitter.

How long do jelly shots last?

You can store the jelly shots in the refrigerator for up to three days for the best flavors.
