Shrimp cocktail is one of those traditional appetizer dishes that is often associated with high-end steak and seafood restaurants. And although it tastes great, it actually isn’t that hard to make at home (and it will cost you a lot less money!)
It’s perfect to serve for a dinner party (you can make it ahead of time)…or just to enjoy when you want a treat.

How To Cook The Shrimp
1. First, the shrimp. You can use the store-bought already cooked shrimp if you want to take the really easy way out. But I find starting with uncooked shrimp that still have the shell on is the best way to get a really tasty shrimp cocktail.
2. If the shrimp are still frozen, run them under cold water for a few minutes to thaw them out
3. Steam or boil them for about 5 minutes with the shell on to get the most flavor in the shrimp. They will turn completely pink when they are done…but don’t overcook them or they will end up being pretty tough.
4. Run the shrimp under cold water to prevent them from cooking further.
5. Then serve them with the following home-made cocktail sauce for the perfect pre-dinner appetizer!
What You Need For Cocktail Sauce
1 cup ketchup
2 Tablespoons horseradish
Juice of half a lemon
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
Dash of Tabasco sauce
Pots and Utensils
How to Put It Together
1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. You can vary the amount of horseradish that you use, based on how spicy you want the dip to be.
2. Serve as a common dip with a shrimp platter, or as the center of an individual shrimp cocktail serving.
Makes enough for 1 small shrimp ring, or about 4 individual shrimp cocktail servings.
