Whether you’re serving a summer brunch for friends or having a 4th of July cookout, this strawberry blueberry yogurt parfait is a light and refreshing recipe that is perfect for a hot day.
I’m never really sure if I should call this recipe a breakfast parfait or a dessert (I’ve served it as both).
But in either case, it is super easy to make, works well for serving on a buffet (see my notes on this below), and looks so pretty on the table.
With its red, white and blue colors, this summer berry parfait is one of my go-to dishes for my annual July 4th parties. And it’s relatively healthy as far as desserts go.

Here is your shopping list:
- Dairy – 2 24-ounce (or 3 16-ounce) containers of vanilla yogurt
- Sweetener – 1/3 cup honey (optional)
- Fruit – 2 cups fresh blueberries, 4 cups fresh strawberries.
- Granola – 2 cups
- You can use plain yogurt or Greek yogurt instead of the vanilla flavor if you want a healthier option that isn’t as sweet.
- The honey can be omitted if desired.
- Other seasonal berries such as raspberries and blackberries can be used in place of or in addition to the blueberries and strawberries.
- Frozen fruit can be used instead of fresh berries, but don’t work well as a separate layer so I would mix them in with the yogurt.
- The granola can be omitted if desired. Or replaced with chopped nuts if you want to keep the crunch.
How to make a berry yogurt parfait
This recipe makes about 8 parfaits. But the exact number of servings you get out of it will depend on the size of the glass or mason jar you are filling.
Wash and dry the blueberries.
Wash and dry the strawberries. Remove the hulls. Then chop them into bite-sized pieces.
Mix the blueberries and strawberries together in a bowl.
Mix 6 cups (32 ounces) of vanilla yogurt with 1/3 cup honey.
Assemble the parfaits
Put 1/3 cup of the blueberry and strawberry mixture in the bottom of a mason jar, parfait cup or wine glass (whatever you are serving the parfaits in).
Spoon 1/3 cup of the yogurt and honey mixture over top of the fruit.
Sprinkle 1/4 cup of granola over the yogurt.
Then repeat these 3 steps again so you end up with 6 layers.
If you are serving these in a larger glass such as a mason jar, you may need to repeat all three layers a third time to fill it up. However, this will decrease the total number of parfaits you will be able to make with the recipe.
Serve immediately to prevent the granola from getting soggy.
You can also top with whipped cream if desired.
How to serve on a buffet
You know I’m always looking for ways to make my life easier when I’m getting ready to have people over.
And I almost always serve meals buffet style (there just isn’t room in my house to host sit-down meals for all of my friends).
So I like to serve deconstructed parfaits on my brunch buffet.
I put out bowls of fruit, the honey and yogurt mixture, the granola, and parfait glasses. And let everyone make their own.
That way they can choose how much of each ingredient they want and I don’t have to make them.
I even put up a “Make Your Own Parfait” sign in case someone isn’t sure what to do.
Yes, parfaits can be made two to three days in advance. To prevent the granola from getting soggy, make the parfait with alternating layers of fruit and yogurt and store it in the refrigerator. Then sprinkle the granola on top immediately before serving.
Frozen fruit can be used in a parfait but it doesn’t look nearly as good as fresh fruit does. When it thaws, frozen fruit gets mushy and juice runs everywhere. So I recommend mixing it in with the yogurt rather than trying to keep them as separate layers.
Berry parfaits can be healthy if you use yogurt that doesn’t contain a lot of sugar and a good quality granola recipe.

- Repeat the fruit, yogurt and granola layers a second time.
- Serve immediately.
- For a healthier parfait that isn’t as sweet, use plain yogurt instead of the vanilla flavor and omit the honey.
- Thawed frozen berries can be used instead of fresh ones. But since they are mushy and have a higher liquid content, they work best if they are mixed into the yogurt rather than serving as a separate layer.
