10 Easy and Creative Wrapping Paper Storage Solutions

Now that the Christmas wrapping season is here, I was faced with the disorganized pile of wrapping paper that has existed in my closet for longer than I care to admit to.

I finally decided to bite the bullet and organize it, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of time putting it together…so the main criteria was that it had to be really easy to do!

After searching all over Pinterest and the internet, I came up with a couple of options I used for myself, and a bunch of others that I thought might be useful for some of you.

Hang Wrapping Paper Rolls

For this wrapping paper storage option, you don’t even need any tools!

All you need is an area with two sides that are far enough apart for your wrapping paper to fit between them.

I used the inside of an armoire (this is going to be my new wrapping station when I’m done with it!).  But you could also use the inside of a shelving unit or a closet.

Then get some really inexpensive tension rods* that fit the space.

Put the wrapping paper on them and expand them out until they are suspended between the walls.

The tension rods work great because you can take them off whenever you need to put up a new wrapping paper.  

But they are sturdy enough to let you pull the wrapping paper off the roll when you need it.

File Folded Paper

Using a filing cabinet to store folded wrapping paper actually came from my fabric scraps storage solutions (which you can find HERE).  

I used a filing box so that I can move it where I want to do the wrapping…but it would work just as well in a filing cabinet.

Simply cut the bottom off the hanging files.

Then fold the wrapping paper over the top of the hanging files.  

Most paper comes folded to the exact size that fits in a standard size filing cabinet which makes it really easy to put away.  

And you can see easily see all of the paper you have.

Use Wire Shelving

If you have some wire shelving in a closet that you’re not using, you can use it to keep rolls of wrapping paper in order. (I used a similar technique as this for organizing the tools in the garage, and storing garden tools in the shed. )

This was my original plan for my armoire.  

Unfortunately, some of my wrapping paper rolls are a little too tall for the armoire space, but it would work well if you were putting them in a closet.

Just use wire snips to cut out some of the wires so that there is a big enough hole for the wrapping paper to fit in.

You’ll be surprised how many rolls will fit into a small shelving area.

Frame Gift Wrap Rolls

The concept behind this framed wrapping paper storage rack from monicawantsit.com is similar to the pegboard option, but uses a dressed-up frame to hold the dowels.  

And since the dowels are hung on hooks, they are easy to take off and put back up when you need to use your supplies.

Make Use Of A Narrow Space

I think this solution kills 2 birds with one stone.  First, it uses up a space that probably wouldn’t be that useful otherwise.

Second, it makes good use of wire shelving.  

In case you haven’t read my other posts, I really don’t like to use wire shelving in closets…and every closet in my house came with piles of it!  So I’m always looking for good ways to re-purpose it.

Utilize Some Closet Wall Space

Apparently the really inexpensive IKEA plastic bag holders make great wrapping paper holders and they fit perfectly in a small closet.

Behind The Door Storage

Another option is to make use of the back of a door to store all of your wrapping supplies.  

This set up stores wrapping paper, ribbons, gift bags and cards all in one easy-to-access space.

Gift Wrap Hutch

If you would rather have a full wrapping center station (and don’t mind splurging a bit), this craft space storage solution* works really.

You can store flat wrapping paper and all of the extras you need to wrap gifts in the drawers. So everything is in one spot.

Gift Wrap Cart

Another option is to get one of these wrapping paper carts*.  

They have room for pretty much all of your wrapping supplies and can be wheeled out of the way when you aren’t using it.

Or if you prefer a neater look, you can get one of these ones* that stores everything inside. With a door that closes to hide all the mess.

Gift Wrap Storage Bag

If you would like the ability to store your wrapping paper in an out-of-the-way location like under the bed or the back of a closet, this gift wrap storage bag* could be the perfect option.  

It also has room for some ribbons and cards so that everything is stored together.
