Nothing says Valentine’s Day and romance like pink and candles.  Make your own Valentine’s Day candle holders by filling mercury glass tea light holders*, vases or mason jars with pink acrylic crystals*.  Then add some tea lights.

I like to use flame-less candles that have a built-in timer*.  That way there is no melted wax to worry about and the candles can turn themselves on…you don’t have to think about it while you’re trying to get ready for dinner.

Sprinkling a few of the extra crystals on the table adds a little extra color, which is especially dramatic on a black, white and gold table cloth like this one from Kate Spade.  My original plan was to use this table cloth for the whole romantic Valentine’s Day table setting, but it ended up overpowering my dishes.  So I swapped it out for a table runner that’s a little more subdued.  However, I still love the color contrast between the stripes and the bright pink crystals and candles…it’s a very “Kate Spade” look.

Pink, White and Gold Dishes

White and pink dishes with gold accents give the romantic feel without being too overpowering.  In this case, I used a white charger* with pink plates and a white and gold accent plate.

Using an accent plate with a heart motif really adds to the romantic Valentine’s Day table setting.  This pattern is called “Love Story Gold” by Mikasa* (it is also available in silver).  It actually comes in a whole set of dinnerware, but I think just the accent plate is enough to set the tone for the table.

Add a Linen Napkin

Linen napkins add some elegance to the table.  The lace trim makes it romantic.  You can find these napkins HERE *.

Make your own Valentine’s Day wine glasses by spray painting the stems gold.  Then use a Sharpie Oil-Based Gold Marker* to draw on the hearts.  Make sure to draw carefully since this ink becomes permanent pretty fast.  If you do make a mistake, you can wash it off with soap and water (and some rubbing)…if you act fast (learned from experience!)

Use A Runner Instead of Place Mats

Place a table runner across the table.  It automatically adds a connection between you and the person setting across from you.  This one is white with gold edging and goes with the colors of the table setting perfectly.

If you’re having a group of people for dinner, use more than one runner laid across the table where people will be sitting.

Add Rose Petals

Rose petals on the table automatically add romance to your dinner!

Real ones are the most luxurious option, but these faux rose petals* will do in a pinch.

They are less expensive and re-usable.

  1. I need to work on my table settings, I always neglect this part and it really looks so pretty.

    1. Thanks! Doing table settings is a relatively new thing for me, too…but now that I’ve started doing them, it really is an easy way to add to the decor 🙂
