Ivy is a low, rapidly growing plant that needs to be planted carefully because of its invasive nature, especially when used as a ground cover.

This evergreen performs well under trees in dense shade but note that it is toxic to animals and humans.

Although English Ivy does bloom in the fall, the greenish-white flowers are not particularly ornamental.
