Alternating light colors (like red and white) are a fun way to add some flair to your outdoor Christmas decor. It’s a simple twist that makes a big impact.

You can string them along your roof line or weave them through the bushes to create a festive and eye-catching display.

If you’re willing to put in a little more work, you can take the alternating color scheme to the next level.

By alternating red and white lights, three or four in a row, you can create a striking candy cane stripe effect that instantly adds a cheerful holiday spirit to your home.

This can be done in straight lines along the roof line of your house, or along fences.

But it looks really sunning if you wrap bands of lights around trees, shutters and bushes..

The trick to getting the branches outlined evenly is to wrap the lights around them in one direction as you move upward, leaving wide spaces between the rows. Then, on your way back down, wrap the lights in the opposite direction, filling in the gaps.

If you’ve got outdoor planters, winding fairy lights through them can really make them pop after dark.

If you want a fun way to express your creativity, try picking a theme for your outdoor Christmas decor.

For my Grinch Christmas a couple of years ago, I used props like a Grinch stealing lights and a blow-up Grinch (not something I typically do).

Paired with red and green lights, it turned into a real showstopper.

With holiday decorations being so popular these days, there are tons of lighted props available to elevate your outdoor decor.

A couple of years ago, I snagged a large present arch from Home Depot, but never got around to putting it up until this year. And I love it.

It fits perfectly in front of the arbor in my front yard, and creates a stunning display at night.

And the blue string lights on the bushes and trees really make it pop.
