the most popular paint color trends of 2025

Every year, paint companies announce their Color of the Year and release carefully curated palettes that reflect upcoming trends in home decor.

While I love seeing the new colors, I don’t believe you should choose a paint color just because it’s trending.

The most important thing is that it fits your style and makes you happy in your space.

That said, paying attention to trending colors can be helpful.

When a color is popular, it’s easier to find home decor, furniture, and accessories in coordinating shades—making it simpler to pull a room together.

So, I’ve taken a look at all the 2025 paint color predictions and put together a list of the ones I think will be everywhere this year.

Whether you’re looking for a fresh wall color or just want to add a trendy accent, these shades are worth keeping on your radar!

Trends summary

In case you’re just looking for the take aways, here’s the summary version of the 2025 paint color trends.

What’s hot

  • Warm tones are definitely trending, in all forms from neutrals to bold colors.
  • As usual, ocean-inspired blues and greens were well represented in this year’s list.
  • And while none of the colors of the year were nature-inspired greens, there were a number of these shades that appeared in the paint companies’ trending color palettes for 2025.
  • There is a surprising amount of purple. The one thing they have in common is that they tend to have a gray undertone.
  • The yellow trend from last year is expanding to include a wider range of tones.
  • Dark neutrals such as brown and black continue their popularity from last year, again with strong color undertones such as red and blue
  • Continuing with the warm tones, beige and warm whites are still trending, replacing cooler grays.
  • In many cases, rich jewel-tones have replaced pastels.

What’s not

  • For the first time in many years, there are very few blues in the trending colors. Even the ocean tones are leaning more towards green.
  • The terracotta colors that have been appearing on the list a lot in the last couple of years are on the way out.
  • Also similar to recent years, there’s a noticeable decline in grays and pinks.

  1. How to fix a carpet to go with the wall coloring?

    1. That’s a tough one, Nancy! I would try to find an area rug to put over the carpet that ties in both the carpet color and the wall color. Or if it’s big enough to cover most of the floor, you could just ignore the carpet color altogether since you won’t see much of it. (If the area rug won’t lie flat, you may also need to get a rug pad that’s intended to go over carpet to put under it.)
